*What the hours include: mediation sessions, document preparation, drafting, communication and scheduling. If more time is needed, additional hours are billed at the mediator's hourly rate, which is confirmed before any extra time is used.
Before you book: at the consultation we confirm independent legal advice and the drafting of a separation agreement or court documents, which are not part of the mediation fees unless we tell you otherwise.
Why Fees Are Set Per Spouse
Mediation only works when both people take part, so each spouse pays an equal share. The mediator is neutral and does not act for either person. Each of you should still get independent legal advice before signing, and Iqbal Law can provide that where appropriate.
Compared with a contested court case, mediation usually takes fewer steps and keeps legal costs more predictable. To see how the process works, read our guide to family mediation in Ontario, or see virtual mediation for Toronto and the GTA.
Fees: Common Questions
Each spouse pays the per-spouse fee shown, plus HST. For example, Comprehensive Mediation is $3,000 for each person, or $6,000 for the couple, plus HST.
Additional hours are billed at the mediator's hourly rate. We confirm the rate before any extra time is used, so there are no surprises.
Preparation lets the mediator meet each of you, then both of you together, so the issues are clear and the right documents are gathered before mediation starts. It also helps decide which package fits.
If you have no children or already agree on parenting, Financial / Property Mediation may be enough. If parenting and child support also need to be settled, Comprehensive Mediation covers them together.
Not on its own. The mediator records your agreement in a memorandum of understanding. Each person should then get independent legal advice, and the terms can become a separation agreement or a consent order.
Yes. Sessions are held by video, so you can each join from anywhere in Ontario.
