Pay Later — legal fee financing

Retain a family lawyer today. Pay for it over time.

A separation shouldn't be decided by how much cash you have on hand. Through Clio and Affirm, IQBAL LAW lets you begin your case now and spread the cost into fixed monthly payments.

Financing provided by Affirm. Subject to eligibility and credit approval.

The cost of family law in Ontario, plainly stated

Retainers and litigation costs are one of the biggest reasons people delay getting proper legal representation. Here is what typical matters can involve.

Typical upfront retainer requested by Ontario family law firms, depending on complexity.
$15k–30k+
Common legal fees per spouse in a contested divorce, per the Canadian Legal Fees Survey.
3–36 mo
Range of repayment terms available through Affirm, depending on the size of your invoice.
The process

Six steps from invoice to representation

01

You receive an invoice

Once you retain IQBAL LAW, we send your invoice or retainer request through our secure Clio Payments portal.

02

Select Pay Later

Alongside credit card and eCheck, you'll see Pay Later as a payment option on the invoice.

03

Apply with Affirm

A short, secure application opens directly with Affirm. It takes a few minutes and includes a credit check.

04

Get a real-time decision

Affirm reviews your application instantly and shows you the payment plans you're eligible for.

05

Choose your schedule

Pick the term that fits your budget — anywhere from 3 to 36 months, depending on the invoice size.

06

We get to work

Affirm pays your invoice to IQBAL LAW in full, and your case moves forward immediately. You repay Affirm directly, month by month.

Why it helps

Built for the financial reality of separation

Representation without delay

Act on custody and asset matters right away, instead of waiting until a retainer is saved or a matrimonial asset is sold.

One fixed payment, every month

A large legal bill becomes a predictable line in your monthly budget, with no surprises.

Savings and credit stay untouched

Keep your cash and credit cards free for housing, moving costs, and the everyday expenses of starting over.

A term that fits your situation

Choose a short 3-month plan or stretch to 36 months — and pay it off early once an equalization payment arrives.

Pay Later is financing from Affirm, not from IQBAL LAW. Choosing to use it, or not, has no bearing on the legal representation you receive. IQBAL LAW is not a lender and does not receive any referral fee for offering it. Full terms are set by Affirm.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Who do I actually owe money to if I use Pay Later?

Affirm. Once approved, you sign a separate loan agreement directly with Affirm Canada Holdings Ltd. Affirm pays your invoice to IQBAL LAW in full, and your monthly repayments go to Affirm — not to our firm.

Does applying affect my credit?

Applying for Affirm financing involves a credit check, and your approval, rate, and available terms are determined by Affirm based on your creditworthiness.

What interest rate will I pay?

For Canadian residents, Affirm's rates range from 10% to 31.99% APR, subject to provincial regulation. Your exact rate depends on your application and is shown before you commit to a plan. A transaction processing fee of 4.95% also applies to the invoice.

Can I pay off my plan early?

Yes. If your circumstances change — for example, after the sale of a matrimonial home or an equalization payment — you can pay off the remaining balance with Affirm ahead of schedule.

Will using Pay Later change how my case is handled?

No. Whether you pay upfront, by card, or through Pay Later has no effect on the quality, priority, or scope of the legal work IQBAL LAW provides on your file.

Is IQBAL LAW responsible for approving my financing?

No. Approval, terms, and collection are handled entirely by Affirm. IQBAL LAW is not a party to your loan agreement and cannot intervene in its terms. For full details, see Affirm's Help Center or call 855-423-3729.

What term lengths are available?

Affirm offers repayment terms from 3 to 36 months. The options shown to you depend on the size of your invoice and your individual approval.

Financial stress shouldn't decide your outcome.
